Female Student Car Insurance
If you're a female student car insurance can actually be pretty cheap. As it happens, female students are one of the cheaper brackets within a certain age group. When you apply for a car insurance policy, the company looks for all the information it can get about you that it can legally use in determining the rates of your car insurance. There are certain limits to what they can use in determining their rates - they can't, for example, change your rate based on your race - but they can use a lot of information about you to determine your rates. Chances are, if you're a female student, you are rather young in driver's terms. As such, you're going to be paying a little bit more than, say, a 50 year-old married woman. The 16 to 25 age bracket is, in terms of age, the most expensive bracket. The cost goes down as you age, but stays relative high until your mid-20s.
Fortunately, insurance is cheaper for women than it is for men during this time period. There are a number of reasons given for this, but ultimately it amounts to a discrimination policy after a certain age. Women in general spend less time in their cars, so they tend to get in proportionally fewer accidents, but the insurance company usually only uses this at a young age, when parents are happy to get a discount for their daughters. So female student car insurance rates are generally a decent amount lower than male student insurance rates.
It also helps to be a good student. A lot of companies will knock money off of your premiums if you show them that you have good grades, as that tends to indicate that you're a responsible person and are less likely to get into car crashes. So ladies, there's another reason to get good grades. As far as I can find, this policy usually only refers to high school students. It's possible it's offered for some college students as well, but I couldn't find any information on that. Being a female student in college might not help your rates all that much, as it then depends more on other factors than the fact that you're in school. Indeed, if you are a commuter, you will likely be spending more time in your car, causing your rates to rise a little bit. Likewise, if you live on campus and pretty much never have to drive, you'll be getting lower rates once again. And as you get older, your rates go down, but you stop getting a discount for being a woman. There are other things, however, that can keep your rate low.
First, get married. Being married helps lower your female student car insurance rates, as the companies have found that people who are married get into fewer accidents. I don't think this is that they are safer drivers so much as that they tend to switch driving duties, thus cutting back on the time each individual spends behind the wheel (which doesn't necessarily cut your rate in half, but insurance for two people will go down if they are married). It also helps to get a certain type of car. Sports cars, cars with kickass engines, SUVs, and so on, will generally cost you a lot more, just because they tend to be more aggressively driven and because they cost a lot more. If your car costs a lot, it's going to cost a lot to insure it. If you can afford a Bentley, though, I'd imagine insurance rates are not your worry. Anyhow, if you have an expensive car, expect to pay more for it, though luxury cars are comparatively less than sports cars. Your best bets are compact cars, though minivans don't have an awful insurance rate. Who wants to drive a minivan though?
Anyway, if you want female student car insurance to be cheap, the best way to get it is to get good grades while you're young, and then get married and drive safe when you're older, preferably in a Camry or something. I know Toyota's getting bad press, but my 1994 Camry is a lovely little car, and he's been treating me wonderfully. His name is Eddie. Anyway, yeah, safe drivers get much better rate than people who have gotten into a bunch of crashes or tickets. You can get cheap female student car insurance, but you need to work for it.
I recommend checking out some of the major sites that advertise cheap insurance (Geico, Esurance, Progressive, etc.) and usually they have quick forms you can fill out to get a basic estimate as to what your rate will be.
